It’s Valentine’s Day, so what would be more appropriate than to share a love poem?
I believe one of the greatest tokens of love comes in the form of a cup of tea.
So here’s a piece I quickly penned, inspired by one of the most simple gestures of affection and kindness.
A love note on my bedside table
by Jo Fisher
Bring it to me in the early light when my sight is still foggy and my brain, soft. Offer it up when I am hunched over Life; a moment of relief, a reminder of more. Pour it any which way – I’ll take it as it comes: strong and undiluted, sugared, weak, stewed, brewed with ceremony or no frills, in a rush, when the scarcity of time gilds it with a Midas-like touch. Let it overflow. Leave our home tinted with its drips. Stain yourself, evidence of it in your smile, hints of it on your lips, your breath. I’ll listen out for it in the morning, the sounds of it coming from the kitchen, the soft tinkle, its heat rising like a wish; the weight of it on a surface, steady. I’ll wrap my hands around it, pucker up, and drink it in. I’ll find it next to me, right where you left it; a love note on my bedside table – your heart, ceramic clad.
